Co-Op Responsibilities

What we expect from families

At BHPPNS, our co-op preschool is a unique experience where parents actively engage in their child’s education. You’ll be involved in daily activities and alongside our teachers and director, you’ll contribute to running the school. Enjoy the rewards of seeing your child’s growth and learn alongside fellow parents. Plus, our Board of Directors, made up of parents like you, oversees our financial and operational aspects.

Join us for a hands-on journey in your child’s early learning!

Here’s a brief outline of what we expect from our families:

  1. Classroom Participation: Work in the classroom once a week, guided by our certified teachers. The schedule for jobs will be posted on Konstella before school starts after considering everyone’s availabilities and work day preferences. You’ll need to attend a classroom volunteer training session before working in the class.
  2. Family Job: Pick and complete a school job that suits you, amounting to about 30 hours yearly. This job is separate from the weekly classroom participation. Options include Yard Maintenance, Librarian, Playdough Maker, and more.
  3. Membership Meetings: Before school starts, you’ll attend a Back to School meeting in August. Later in the school year, we’ll have our evening meetings on the 3rd Wednesday of October, January, and March from 7-9 pm to discuss school business, parent education, and connect with other parents.
  4. Tuition Payments: Thank you for paying tuition by the 2nd of each month via Jovial. We have an auto-pay option you can set up on Jovial.
  5. Parent Participation Project: Share your skills, interests, or values with the children through a special project on a scheduled date during class.
  6. Healthy Snacks: Provide a healthy, allergen-free snack for all children on a rotating basis.
  7. Maintenance Responsibilities: Each family takes on one laundry duty (or pays a buyout fee) and participates in two community clean-ups annually.

In the classroom, you’ll receive a tag outlining your duties for the day, including the schedule and tasks. The teachers will guide you on any special projects. As parent volunteers, we engage with the children, fostering play aligned with BHPPNS’s philosophy, assisting with projects, and creating teachable moments. Your role might vary, from storytelling to helping with impromptu activities like puppet shows or fort building.

You’ll also help with the smooth running of the class, preparing for activities, aiding in cleanup, snack time, and tidying up the classroom.

Can’t make it? We understand the challenges of parenting; illnesses and life happens. If it’s your assigned workday, it’s your responsibility to find a substitute if you cannot make it. Reach out via Konstella, email, or phone to other parents for help. If someone covers for you, you can either swap a workday with them or offer a $50 sub fee directly to them. While it’s best to find a sub from your class, you can ask parents from other BHPPNS classes, and you’re welcome to bring your registered child to class with you.

We’re excited to have you join us!
