On Saturday, March 23, the California Council of Parent Participation Nursery Schools (CCPPNS) presented our very own Pre-K Teacher Kelly with the Teacher of the Year award, at their annual convention hosted in Oakland.
Over thirty Bunker Hill parents (past and present) and fellow teachers nominated Teacher Kelly with written letters to the council, highlighting all of the things we love and appreciate about her and the impact she’s had in setting the foundation for education for hundreds of children over the last twenty-seven years.
Surprising Kelly with the nomination at the luncheon, a table filled with Bunker Hill parents, Teacher Margaret and Teacher Roberta attended the luncheon to watch her receive the award.
Kelly wrote the following thank you letter, expressing her sentiments, in response:
Dear Bunker Hill Sticky Friends,
I am the honored recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award flowering from your beautiful letters filled with love. I read every one at least twice already, and anytime I am not being a number one teacher, I will reread them to remind myself why I am teaching. I cried and cried reading your kind words and your recounts of times at BH. I will continue to make each day like it is our last together so as to meet your high standards and expectations for the teachers of you and your children. Keep your standards high at Bunker Hill and as you continue to move through all your phases of education. Having you parents in the classroom makes me a better teacher every day.
With gratitude and appreciation,
Congratulations to Teacher Kelly, 2013 CCPPNS Teacher of the Year!
(The teacher who does everything from setting leprechaun traps to digging post holes!)
